Internal Medicine & Rheumatology
Dr. James H. Yeung is a Canadian board-certified rheumatologist and general internist. He earned both his Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Alberta. Following medical school, he completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine and an additional two years of specialized training in Rheumatology, also in Edmonton, Alberta. Dr. Yeung successfully obtained his Royal College certification in Internal Medicine in 2012 and in Rheumatology in 2013.
After completing his training, Dr. Yeung worked as a locum physician at the University of Alberta and the Allin Clinic before establishing a community-based practice on 124th Street in Edmonton. During this time, he also provided inpatient care at the University of Alberta Hospital, the Royal Alexandra Hospital, and several community hospitals. Dr. Yeung greatly valued his time in Edmonton and fondly remembers the strong connections he formed with both his patients and colleagues.
In 2015, Dr. Yeung relocated to Richmond, British Columbia to open a new rheumatology clinic. He looks forward to continuing his commitment to patient care and is enthusiastic about building relationships in his new community. Dr. Yeung is proud to offer care in both English and Cantonese, making him one of the few rheumatologists in the province fluent in both languages.
Special Interests/Research
Dr. Yeung conducted extensive research as he collaborated with world experts in immunosuppression and has published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Yeung has special interests in rheumatoid arthritis as well as seronegative spondyloarthropathies (Abstract #1, Abstract #2, Journal 1). He has also collaborated with his colleagues on researching about glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis. He has also conducted research into rare inflammatory myopathies such as MDA-5 dermatomyositis.
Dr. Yeung has a special interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound, having completed several advanced training courses organized by the Canadian Rheumatology Ultrasound Society and the American College of Rheumatology. Dr. Yeung also has a strong interest in refugee health and international medical work. Over the years, he has traveled to various parts of the world to provide medical care to underserved populations. His global health experience includes serving on a post-operative care team for burn patients and working in a general internal medicine clinic in rural China. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Yeung is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Yeung has been actively involved in developing a Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) at Richmond Hospital, a program dedicated to improving care and outcomes for patients with osteoporosis and fragility fractures. A Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) is a coordinated, multidisciplinary program designed to identify, assess, and manage patients with fragility fractures to prevent future fractures and improve bone health. Over the past few years, the service has been successfully implemented, thanks to the dedication and collaboration of a multidisciplinary team. We are proud of what we’ve achieved together and remain committed to advancing fracture prevention and bone health in our community.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Yeung enjoys cooking as well as playing foosball, table tennis, and hockey.

Jenn - Receptionist
Jenn grew up in the heart of Richmond and completed her Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology at the University of British Columbia. Though she initially planned to pursue veterinary medicine, five years of exploring other paths led her to a better fit—working as a medical office assistant. With experience in large, medium, and small businesses across both public and private sectors, she finds working in a small clinic most rewarding, as it allows her to build connections with patients within the community. At the clinic, she handles scheduling and a range of administrative responsibilities. Over time, many patients have come to recognize her as a familiar face during their visits. Outside of work, Jenn enjoys long walks and spending time with her chatty miniature dachshund, whom she would describe as more spoiled than trained. Ramen and fries are her favorite food and she loves spontaneous gelato outings. If you have any recommendations, she's all ears!
