Dr. James Yeung
Dr. James H. Yeung, BMedSc, MD, FRCP(C) (Internal Medicine and Rheumatology) is a Canadian board-certified rheumatologist and general internist. He completed his Bachelor of Medical Science degree and Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Alberta. Subsequently, he trained for another 3 years in internal medicine and 2 years in rheumatology in Edmonton, Alberta. He successfully passed both Royal College board certification exams of Canada for Internal Medicine (2012) and Rheumatology (2013).
After completing his training in rheumatology, Dr. Yeung locumed at the University of Alberta and the Allin Clinic before settling down in a community practice on 124th street in Edmonton, Alberta. He took care of many patients in the hospital (University of Alberta, Royal Alexandra Hospital, and other community hospitals.) He loved his practice there because he loved his patients and the colleagues that he worked with. He will dearly miss his Edmonton practice.
In 2015, Dr. Yeung moved to Richmond, B.C. to start a new rheumatology clinic and is excited for this new chapter in his life. He is excited to meet many new patients and colleagues! Dr. Yeung is one of the few rheumatologists in the province who can speak fluently in Cantonese and English!
Special Interests/Research
Dr. Yeung conducted extensive research as he collaborated with world experts in immunosuppression and has published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Yeung has special interests in rheumatoid arthritis as well as seronegative spondyloarthropathies (Abstract #1, Abstract #2, Journal 1). He has been collaborating with world experts in researching patients with uveitis, psoriasis, and Crohn’s disease. (Click here for more information.) He has also collaborated with his colleagues on researching about glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis. He has also conducted research into rare inflammatory myopathies known as dermatomyositis. Dr. Yeung has special interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound after completing a few ultrasound courses (organized by the Canadian Rheumatology Ultrasound Society and American College of Rheumatology). He utilizes these skills in his day-to-day practice and to help advance this niche within rheumatology.
Dr. Yeung also has special interest in refugee health as well as international work. Over the years, he has travelled to many parts of the world to utilize his medical skills to help patients. He has had the opportunity to serve in a post-operative care team for burn patients as well as in a general internal medicine clinic for patients in rural parts of China. Presently, Dr. Yeung is also a clinical assistant professor for the University of British Columbia in the Department of Medicine.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Yeung enjoys cooking as well as playing foosball, table tennis, and hockey.
